Research Work

I worked as a Research Associate during 1998–99 on a research project using Remote Sensing and GIS techniques for forecasting a malarial vector in Karachi and its environs, in collaboration with the Department of Geography, University of Georgia, Athens, USA.

Responsibilities:

• Developed the project database
• Vectorized raster data
• Digitized Karachi district boundaries and malarial zones
• Integrated spatial and research data provided by the University
• Supported development of the malaria forecasting model through GIS data preparation and integration

Recent Applied GIS Research

Healthcare Accessibility & Intervention Priority Analysis – Kaduna State, Nigeria (2026)

Conducted an independent GIS-based analysis of healthcare accessibility across Kaduna State, covering all 23 LGAs and 26,833 settlements. The study assessed settlement access to healthcare facilities and identified geographically underserved and priority locations for intervention.

Key Outputs:

• Analyzed 26,833 settlement locations and 1,545 healthcare facilities
• Identified 2,857 settlements located more than 5 km from a healthcare facility
• Classified intervention priorities, including 307 Critical locations
• Integrated settlement, healthcare facility, road, population and administrative boundary datasets
• Produced accessibility, priority and supporting analytical maps
